Do You Have a Metal Allergy?

Posted -

Did you know that one of the most common causes of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a metal allergy? The three metals that have shown to be the most disruptive to our immune system and sensitive to our skin are nickel, chrome and cobalt. They are everywhere around us either intentionally or accidentally, from the jewellery we wear to the canned foods we eat to the cement and concrete we use as construction material or metal alloys we use in manufacturing processes. An allergic reaction is often demonstrated by an itchy rash on the skin where contact was made with the metal.

If you suspect that you have a metal allergy, specifically nickel or cobalt, and want to identify objects or materials that may have traces of them, we offer the Chemo Nickel Test and Chemo Cobalt Test as your first line of defence. Each test contains a specialized solution that detects the metal when applied to the suspected item. If you know that you are in fact allergic to nickel or cobalt, we recommend the NIK-L-BLOK™BARRIER
